Bar with the Colonial Service Medal
Photo © Captain George Albert
The medals on this bar in order of
seniority from left to right are-
Prussian 1914 Iron Cross, second class
Prussian Other Ranks Long
Service Award, first class for 15 years service
Colonial
Service Medal,
Colonial Service Medal, with clasp for "VENEZUELA
1902/03"
The original owner
of this medal bar was an other ranks naval veteran and almost
certainly an NCO judging from his length of service. The claps for
Venezuela on his Colonial Medal shows that he served (on either the
SMS Panther, SMS Vineta, SMS Falke, SMS Sperber, SMS Stosch, SMS
Charlotte or the SMS Gazelle) during the blockade of Venezuelan
ports from December 1902. He also served with
distinction in the First World War, as can be seen by his
Iron Cross.
