Miniature with the Combatants Colonial Medal
Photo © JW Collection
The medals on this bar in order of
seniority from left to right are-
Prussian 1914 Iron Cross, second
class
1914-18 Honour Cross
for combatants,
shown only on the miniature bar
Prussian Other Ranks Long Service
Award,
first class for 21 years service
Colonial
Service MedalThe original owner of this medal bar
and miniature ribbon bar
was an other ranks veteran who served in a colonial campaign though he has no clasp on his Colonial
Service Medal to show which campaign. The certificate for the
Colonial Service Medal always specified which campaign the medal was
awarded for but the recipient had to purchase the clasp separately,
not all of whom did. This veteran also served with
distinction in the First World War, as can be seen by his
Iron Cross and
1914-18
Honour Cross. It might
well be that he served in a colonial campaign during the First World
War.
